MAR | Oasis Summit: Crafting Immersion

For two weeks, OASIS organizes the OASIS Summit in which makers, education, and the professional field come together around immersive technology, craftsmanship, and the making process itself.

Dates

02.03.2026 – 12.03.2026

Location

Katoenhuis Rotterdam

Oasis Summit is centered on crafting immersion. The focus is not on application, but on how immersive experiences come into being: through making, testing, experimenting, and learning together by doing.

During this period, makers, educational institutions, and companies come together, with at its core a two-week makers’ residency: the Immersive Residence, in which students and teachers collaborate on one large immersive installation. Surrounding this are hands-on workshops, gatherings, and a network exhibition.

Part of the OASIS Summit is the Immersive Residence: a two-week maker residency (March 2-13) in which students and lecturers collaborate on various installations that culminate in an immersive exhibition.

This residency originated from an initiative of the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam and is now being rolled out across OASIS. The Immersive Residence demonstrates in practice what Crafting Immersion stands for: building, experimenting, and learning together.

During the Summit, there will be several opportunities to view and experience the students' work. The results of the Immersive Residence will be presented in an exhibition during the OASIS x SHINE Drinks event on March 12th.

Program:

Monday, March 9, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

XR Play Day

A day in which teachers, makers and companies from the OASIS network work together to develop and test interactive XR experiences.

The Immersive Hackathon is organized in collaboration with Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam.

Collaborative creation and experimentation are central. Participants will explore how XR, AI, sensors, sound, and light intertwine in the creation of immersive experiences and how these developments find their place in education and practice.

The XR Play Day is a closed program component and takes place by invitation.

Immersive Education Collective

By: Linda van den Hout

On Tuesday, March 10th, we'll take the next steps together within the Immersive Education Collective. This day will focus on building the immersive generation together and shaping future-proof education.

Morning - Education (10:00 AM - 12:30 PM)

The morning focuses on education. Teachers and education professionals collaborate on questions such as: Which skills are relevant now and in the future? How do we shape educational programs together?

Afternoon - Education & the Workplace (1:30 PM - 3:30 PM)

In the afternoon, the discussion will broaden, with businesses and other interested parties joining in. We will explore how education and the workplace can strengthen each other and how collaboration can lead to new initiatives and programs within immersive experiences.

Gaussian Splatting (English)

By: Luis Omar Santos del Prada De Paz

This workshop is organized by OASIS Academy and is aimed at creative directors, producers, and technical supervisors who want to translate academic innovations into production-ready workflows.

Gaussian Splatting is making the transition from research lab to production environment. In this English-language workshop, participants will explore how this technique is applied in practice, from capture to compositing, even under production pressure and deadlines.

Using concrete examples, you will gain insight into where Gaussian Splatting adds value in the manufacturing process and where its limits lie.

Keynote GenAI for 3D Creatives (English)

By: Gabriele Romagnoli

Content is evolving faster than ever on new platforms with unprecedented creative power. Created by and for a new generation of AI natives. In this keynote, you'll discover what GenAI can mean for 3D creatives working at the intersection of technology, design, and storytelling.

Gabriele will take you on an outsider's journey, where humans and AI co-create virtual worlds. Many conversations about 3D, XR, and AI are driven by hype and headlines. In this keynote, Gabriele will explain how GenAI is becoming part of 3D workflows and immersive experiences. Using concrete examples, tools, and resources, participants will gain tools they can immediately apply in their own practice.

OASIS Learning Community

By: Michiel Krikke

During the OASIS Summit, we will provide a first glimpse into the new online platform: the OASIS Learning Community.

Throughout the day, Summit visitors are welcome to explore the platform and get acquainted with the initial setup. The focus is on viewing, experiencing, navigating, and discovering. We invite you to share your initial impressions and feedback, which we will incorporate into further development.

The OASIS Learning Community will be a place where knowledge, practice and collaboration within OASIS come together.

Free admission throughout the day. No registration required.

Thursday, March 12, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Binaural Audio introduction

By: Joost M. de Jong

In this workshop, organized by OASIS Academy, you'll learn about binaural audio: a technique that allows you to create a convincing three-dimensional soundscape using just two channels. You'll discover how sound doesn't just emanate from the left and right, but actually moves around the listener.

We combine a brief introduction to the psychoacoustics behind binaural audio with hands-on experimentation. You'll learn to position sound in space and design your own short spatial audio scene.

The workshop is aimed at makers who want to make their audiovisual work more spatial, immersive and experience-oriented.

TouchDesigner

By: Nino Basilashvili

In this hands-on workshop, organized by OASIS Academy, you'll learn to use TouchDesigner to create interactive, real-time visuals that blend image, sound, and movement. You'll experiment freely with generative visuals and bring your creations to life through projection mapping onto a physical surface.

You will leave with a working prototype that demonstrates how interactive visuals can respond to sound and movement, directly applicable in installations, performances or immersive experiences.

Vibe Coding Formats

By: Serge de Beer

This workshop is organized by OASIS Academy and introduces vibe coding: a way of working that uses coding with AI to support and accelerate the creative production process.

During the workshop, you'll work on developing a simple, AI-powered tool that helps structure and develop ideas into a robust format. The focus is on creating a flow in the creative process: from initial concept to concrete direction.

Depending on the progress of the session, the tool can be further expanded, for example by automatically generating a storyboard that matches the chosen creative direction.

This workshop is intended for participants who want to take the next step in working with AI within (new) media and practice.

Arduino Robotics

By: Martijn Janssen, Floris van Dijk

Ever wondered how animatronics and interactive objects work? In this hands-on workshop, you'll get hands-on with Arduino and build a simple robotic eye step by step.

Under the guidance of Martijn Janssen and Floris van Dijk, you'll learn the basics of programming, electronics, and mechanical control. No dry theory, just hands-on practice, testing, and experimenting. You'll learn how movement, technology, and interaction come together in a physical object.

The workshop, organized by OASIS Academy, is suitable for makers who are curious about robotics and physical interaction and want to understand how digital control translates into movement in the real world.
