TEC ART | The Bright Side of Dystopia
TEC ART returns to Katoenhuis with a selection of international media artists under the theme "The Bright Side of Dystopia". This year's festival edition argues that even during society’s race to the bottom, hope is always to be found. The exhibition is a dramatic attempt to look beyond the utter madness of reality and share a message of hope: perhaps after total collapse we can finally see a bright side again!
Design Biennale Rotterdam
Set within the expansive, high-ceilinged spaces of Katoenhuis, a series of installations and exhibitions delve into materiality, technology, and production in design. One series of installations and films rethinks material innovation, exploring how resources are repurposed and reimagined, while a show curated by Wumen Ghua examines the role of AI and intelligence in shaping contemporary design. Together, these exhibitions challenge traditional notions of making, pushing the boundaries of both process and possibility.
IFFR | Art Directions
International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is partnering with Katoenhuis on the 2025 edition of its Art Directions programme - a space dedicated to immersive media where the festival steps out of the screening room and pushes the limits of what cinema can be, with immersive works from multidisciplinary creators.

Placemaking Europe 2024
The 7th edition of the annual festival Placemaking Europe was held in the vibrant MerweVierhavens (M4H) district of Rotterdam.
Conflux Festival 2024
Happening across various locations in Rotterdam from September 19–22, 2024, Conflux returned for its third edition under the theme “Symbiotic Realities.” This year, Katoenhuis Rotterdam hosted the festival’s exhibition.
Parfum de BoemBoem
During the World Port Days weekend, Parfum de BoemBoem explored the vibrant Merwe-Vierhavens area (M4H) in Rotterdam, a center for the region’s innovative makers.
Bubble Buzz
Creative agency Factorr.nl moved into Katoenhuis as one of its first tenants. Their kick-off project here, “Bubble Buzz” was a façade installation that used the symbolism of bubbles as spaces of comfort and safety to reflect our collective tendency to isolate from uncertainties.
Radiant Voids – TEC ART
TEC ART in collaboration with Lumus Instruments presents “Radiant Voids”, an exhibition at the junction of art and technology inside the spaces of Katoenhuis | Rotterdam's Immersive Experience Hub.
