Capella by Studio Den Haan

The kinetic installation translates a distant astronomical phenomenon into an intimate sensory experience. Inspired by the star Capella—the sixth brightest circumpolar star, located 43 light-years from Earth—the work reflects on the shimmering colours created when starlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere. These shifting hues, caused by atmospheric refraction, are reimagined through an arrangement of optics, light, and materials. Visitors are invited to observe how light bends, scatters, and transforms as it travels through lenses and reflective surfaces. By bringing a celestial effect into a spatial

environment, the work makes the behaviour of light perceptible, bridging cosmic distance and immediate physical experience.
