Depressed Furniture represents an abstract translation of depression into design. It is a spatial installation consisting of five lamps that provide a platform for the illness in an unconventional context. The project goes beyond pure design and bridges the gap between design, art and society. The objects embody functional art, as they are serving as sculptures that also provide light.

Each lamp embodies an emotion that many of those affected can relate to, raising awareness of the complexity of the disease and breaking the taboo surrounding mental illness. By abstracting a negatively connoted topic, it can be approached on a neutral level. In addition to the lamps of the installation, the project also includes five smaller, table-sized versions, each capturing the same concepts. Crafted from raw aluminum and frosted glass, the materials enhance the emotional impact of the work.

The project challenges conventional design standards and explores new possibilities beyond traditional boundaries. It reflects the goal to provide a positive impulse to contemporary society and demonstrates how design can be used to communicate societal issues.
