This April, Katoenhuis celebrates its 75th anniversary. It is a milestone that reflects the building's lasting role in Rotterdam’s port and its continuous reinvention.
Built in the years following World War II, the building played an important role in rebuilding Rotterdam’s port. For decades, it was used for storage and logistics, supporting the movement of goods and helping the port grow into one of the largest in the world.
Now, 75 years later, Katoenhuis is starting a new chapter. The building is being transformed into a hub for immersive technology (IX), culture, and creative work.
This shift reflects a bigger change happening in Rotterdam—from an industrial port focused on physical goods to a city exploring digital innovation and new forms of experience.
Katoenhuis has always adapted to what the city needed. From post-war recovery to today’s technological and cultural transitions, it continues to play a role in shaping the future of the port and beyond.
