On May 31st, we merged art with sustainable innovation during the 10th anniversary of the TOFFLER Festival!

We showcased SEPIA, a kinetic light sculpture by creative technologist Wes Broersen. It was created on top of the WasteShark, an autonomous vessel designed to efficiently collect waste from water.

Presented as a result of our Turning Tides residency, the installation not only offered a visual experience for festival visitors but also actively cleaned the lake throughout the festival. Did you know one vessel can collect up to 100 kg of waste?

SEPIA is inspired by the natural movement of the cuttlefish (Sepia), the installation mimics the wave-like motion of the animal’s side fin. As they move, light and motion come together to create a vivid display on the surface of the water, with reflections playing a key role. It shows how technology and nature can work in harmony.
