"we all woke up today to some kind of explosions" is one of the first text messages Sophia Bulgakova received on 24 February 2022, the day the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began. A collection of Sophia's personal texts from the three years of the invasion are encoded in various forms: a printed edition using stereograms, and an installation presenting dissolving analogue images via slide projectors and digital animations. These techniques evoke memories of stereographic publications from Sophia's childhood, as well as her memories of bedtime stories and fairy tales told by her nanny using a slide projector. These illusory and peaceful childhood memories contrast sharply with her present reality. The black and white aesthetic of the installation represents the difficulty of communicating the real war experience to non-Ukrainians and the diminishing media coverage of the ongoing war.

For this year's edition of TEC ART, Sophia has created a site-specific version of the work, transforming it into a sensual experience that further immerses the audience in her daily reality as a Ukrainian. Bright Side of Dystopia, indeed. Created in collaboration with Ymer Marinus (sound composition and projection techniques).
